Conclusion

With the increase in economic exchanges and migration flows, contemporary societies are turned into multicultural bodies faced to the challenge of finding rapidly new social balances. Education to otherness, cornerstone of such social fabric, may be part of several disciplines like language, sport but also and overall music. Indeed, musical practices, especially those based on traditional music, which strenghthen human relationships in old or current communities, do have an important potential for social cohesion.

Thus, opening music education into a world wide perspective, from pre-school and primary school to university, is the first step towards providing young people with the intercultural skills and key features that help them to live in a diverse society. Promoting such an educational commitment goes along with teaching the teachers who need to be given a real understanding and acquisition of such an approach so that they can in turn pass on knowledge.

The MORE project has brought to light best practices that flourish everywhere in the European music education systems. Foreign language singing for children, peer learning for young musicians, musical bilingualism in the context of advanced studies, etc. are as much as efficient intercultural models that emerge from the professional community.

Sharing and disseminating those models to as many professionals as possible is what must be accomplished today. In line with this ambition, the MORE project has shown the way. Thanks to the actions that were undertaken during these past two years, research, discussions, artistic meetings, educational workshops, concerts, through all Europe, and thanks to the translation of these actions onto the website, teachers and education managers who are concerned by these issues will find a rich and inspiring material.
